This Series 2.E Type will be with us for some time - target date for completion Spring 2007
Current work in progress.
It's in pole position for the paintshop but current work is on the engine.
Initially, the engine is a total stripdown to see what we've got.
This is DEL, an XJS V12 that is in for amongst other things-
- a replacement front crankshaft oil seal.
Done and dusted ready for pulley replacement.
Next area for attention a total front suspension rebuild with particular regard to the well known problems of corrosion.
This was revealed on the offside after removal of the front subframe.
Both sides were affected, and the corrosion had been invisible as these areas are hidden from view with the front subframe in position.
Digging produced larger and larger areas of corrosion between the skins - to bottom the problem serious surgery begins to look necessary.
Down to the bare block ready for acid cleaning and skimming, engine wear has been measured and is minimal.
Same treatment for the head.
FAY is a 1948 3.5litre Jaguar with some corrosion evident in the lower sections of her body.
Paint removal on the nearside rear shows the extent of the problem which also extended under the lead loading at each end of the section.
Work continues.

Success - Fay ready for SS Register tour of Holland.

Surgery complete and replacement metal welded in and leaded
Ready for paint
Ready for door replacement but........
Both front doors require surgery at the lower corners.
Outer skins sections cut away and replaced
Lead loaded and ready for paint
Fay also has an engine vibration problem which warranted a unit out investigation.
Excessive end float and main bearing shells breaking up resulted in a bottom end re-build.
Engine ready to re-fit
